Day 3 Mt Garnet to Mt Surprise 124.2 kms

What a lovely, friendly caravan park at Mt Garnet. Greg the manager could not do enough for us and the part owner (who provided home delivered meals last night) also provided us with some block ice this morning.

Without Anna around Collis & I need to leave a bit earlier to provide the earlier water run and to choose a nice tea break site which is what Anna used to do for us. "We all miss you Anna!!" We requested our other driver to provide this service but he for some reason refused without giving us a reason. He has also requested we no longer mention him in the blog!

Today there was the usual gap between the first & last riders with the first group leaving around 1/4 to 7 and the last group leaving an hour later. Before morning tea the group had a head wind with some undulation but as soon as they turned onto the Savanahh Way they had the best tail wind all the way to lunch.

Morning tea was at the 50 km mark on the side of the road. Ben had picked out a spot for us but we couldn't get the car in so we went a little further down the road. I had made a homemade date slice which everyone seemed to enjoy. We missed Georg at morning tea and Woody just travelled on by without stopping. Lunch was at the 100 km mark on the side of the road and once again Ben had chosen a spot with Jan & Annie waiting there with him. Again we couldn't get the car in so we again travelled down a little before stopping. Jan was quite chuffed with herself as she got to her food box before Ben as he had to get back on his bike to catch up with us.  We missed Woody & Georg at lunch as well as they didn't bother to stop and went straight on through to the town.

We are staying at the Bedrock Village and we have a large area for camping, everyone has spread out and most have already gone down the pub for a well earned drink. We had been told that there was a supermaket in town but have since discovered this is not so and that all there is, is a small general store with minimal supplies. I was fortunate to be able to get the mince for the meal I will be providing for the riders tomorrow night otherwise it looked it may have ended up being a vegetarian meal. Nice swimming pool here but the weather is a bit unpredictable and everytime I think I will go for a dip, it starts to sprinkle again. Tomorrow is our first rest day on this leg and everyone is well and truely ready for it after the last couple of days.

About a dozen of the riders headed back to the pub for a meal while Chris, Jan, Annie, Collis & I all stayed and cooked at the camp kitchen. Woody went for the the caravan park special of stir fry chicken followed by an apple/peach crumble. The rest of us that were eating in went for the CP desserts as well. A really great deal for $6/head and there did not appear to be any limit to the amount you could eat.
Early to bed again tonight as quite a few of us are doing the early morning lava tubes tour, leaving camp at 8.15 am.
